dropped by the salon
we did something different for a change
she cropped off the twigs at the end of each strand
it feels smoother and less prickly against my shoulders
i sat up really still throughout the operation
observing her expressions, that intense concentration
lines formed on her face
as she examined her latest work
running the comb through my hair
halted at the edge, up the curve
she glanced at me from the reflections before us
shrugged her shoulders and sighed,
"guess the curls get to stay, take it as you are blessed with."
"not that everyone could have it, even if they wanted to."
i narrowed my eyes to focus on her lips
she was smiling
and i thought, "hmm, blessed it is."
